A trip to the ‘Green Island’
On Sunday, March 16th 2014, we met in Oberwart to start our language trip. We went to the airport in Bratislava by bus. At 20:30 we flew to the capital of Ireland and a bus took us to Galway. Our host families waited there at 2 a.m. and drove us home.
On the next day was the famous St. Patrick’s Day, where we saw the parade in Galway. All the people were dressed green and wore hats and other costumes.
From Tuesday to Friday we went to the Atlantic Language School and in the afternoons we did several activities. We also had enough time for shopping and other leisure activities.
On Saturday we went to the Cliffs of Moher and enjoyed the beautiful view. In the evening we checked in at a hostel in Killarney and in the next morning we went to Blarney Castle and the Rock of Cashel.
We arrived in Dublin in the evening and discovered the city in our free time.
On the next day we visited the Jameson Distillery in Dublin and were allowed to take some sips of the famous Whiskey.
After 10 days, on Tuesday, March 25th 2014, we flew home from the airport in Dublin to Vienna.
The people in Ireland were very friendly and helpful, but their living standard is not as good as in Austria. It was also interesting to learn about the Irish cooking, but back in Austria we appreciate our good “Hausmannskost”.
We also had the opportunity to make some cultural studies in several pubs and we can say that our journey was a wonderful experience.
Finally, we want to thank our teachers Mrs. Wilfinger and Mrs. Kropf for organizing this trip and accompanying us.
